Property Selling & Buying Differs Greatly Abroad
Knowing your property market is not something you can pick up just like that. The experienced estate agent, will have to sell many a house before they get the knowledge needed to appreciate the buying trends that affect their job. What I find most facinating about the north american system is the short time allowance for selling and moving in elsewhere. There are a couple of programmes imported currently that show houses being renovated/upgraded specifically in order to raise the eventual selling price to ‘top dollar’. The host will tell a couple their dream house is $X above their top limit but it’s been on the market for 15 days and so he can probably negotiate an umpteen $000 reduction. 15 days ? wooh. Also, when they say they’ll accept a buyers offer and when they put in a bid and win, then it seems cut and dried, there’s no subject to contract period and no one seems to do any searches to see if there’s any nightmare sitting around the corner . . . .
